Color values outside and inside

A couple weeks ago, I went to the OPA paintout in Lancaster and did 3 paintings plein air.  I had fun, met some new friends, and for the most part was pleased with my plein air work . . . until I got it home.  Then my paintings, which I had thought full of color, turned into dark gray messes with no color.  And it's all to do with that gorgeous fall lighting outside - the kind that beckons you to come out and paint, then blinds you and bleaches out your colors.

The paintings in outdoor light are on the left, and in studio lighting on the right.

So for my next focus, I'm going outdoors.  I'm going to see what happens when I paint plein air, and how to achieve the colors I want in both sunshine and indoor lighting.
